INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF LATIN-AMERICAN FOLKLORE MUSIC “SONAMOS LATINOAMERICA”
More than an isolated event, “Sonamos Latinoamérica” is a whole universe from which to spread the Latin American popular music and culture into the world. Born in Argentina in 2006, this movement, formed by a group of musicians studying and creating the folklore of their Latin American countries, has been growing steadily, opening new lanes in as many countries as it has been possible, thus giving birth to an unprecedented event and a huge cultural display with a clear Latin American vocation and profile.
As a result, every year the festival is met by growing audiences, increased interest from the media and a bigger number of shows and associated events, which have gained the support not only from the public, but also from local governments and private companies which have understood the importance of this newly born space, where a number of virtuous artists from all over Latin America have the opportunity to show their excellence in the extremely rich field of traditional music from their countries.
We can mention the Argentinian editions of the festival in important cities such as Santa Fe, Paraná, San Marcos Sierras in Córdoba , Buenos Aires and Chubut, in addition to the two editions of the festival in Venezuela, in the years 2010 and 2011, and the recent Colombian first festival in the cities of Bogotá and Medellín, where it took the name “Latinoamérica de Concierto”.
In 2012, the event will make its way into Perú, Chile and Uruguay, adding more and more home cities and musical expressions.
Concerts, educational activities aimed at primary and secondary schools, conferences, talks, courses and workshops, as well as the broadcast of radio programmes in Argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador and Uruguay, are some examples of the projects which are in progress.
This project has recently obtained a prize from the Secretaria de Producciones Culturales del Ministerio de Innovación y Cultura and its programme for the encouragement of cultural production, which will enable the festival to have its own record label, with the first six works to be released in 2012.
